about

The third song to be written well before the pandemic took over our lives. It’s an understanding that change is a difficult but necessary part of human existence. It is paradoxically incredibly exciting and at the same time disturbing. Our resistance to change can often make it feel like things are being forced upon us unnecessarily, particularly since none of us ever see the whole picture, just our own small (but not insignificant) part in the grand scheme. As a note, this song ticks one of the items on my “songwriting bucket list”, which is to sing the word “stop” and have the song pause for a beat.

lyrics

Look before it’s gone
Listen, what you heard was wrong
There’s no keeping up the pace
There’s no winner in this race, but...
Run fast as you can
And try to work out the plan
Because when the bell tolls, well you won’t hear the chimes
You’re just hopelessly stumbling through changing times
Stop. Check the facts
Think before you react
Because nothing’s what it seems
And you can’t work out what it means, but it’s
Gone before it begins.
You’ve got to learn to take it on the chin
It seems so hard to stay in your prime
Keep on moving and keep up with changing times.
When things don’t stay the same
You always find a scapegoat to blame
With the burden of it all
Who will rise? Who will fall?
Read between the lies
Because it’s time to lose the disguise
Only time will tell who committed the crimes
It just takes your patience to get through changing times.
