about

On the surface, this seems like a continuation of the previous theme, although it was written in the autumn of 2019, so as prophetic as it appears, it has nothing to do with the pandemic. It was inspired by a close friend, and a life-altering situation, which came as a massive shock to me. It made me think about how you can be so sure of something, but that everything can change at any point, with little to no warning. Once again, there’s some familiar imagery, and “The King” in this instance refers to a defining part of your life, being dethroned by something which appears to be beyond your control.

lyrics

It’s been said we’re not aware and we don’t know what we’ll miss until it’s not there
But I know that isn’t true because I know just what I’ve got with you
And like my own mortality… I see things I don’t want to see
I'm just looking on and in a moment it was gone
I’m watching from the higher ground
As it all comes crashing down without a sound
Without a sound
When all that’s left is the debris of the heavy storm that left you lost at sea
When it’s washed on to the shore and the silence falls at the end of the war
The king will lose his throne… the weeds don’t care where the seeds are sown
I'm just looking on and in a moment it was gone
I’m watching from the higher ground
As it all comes crashing down without a sound
Without a sound
I'm just looking on and in a moment it was gone
I’m watching from the higher ground
As it all comes crashing down without a sound
Without a sound
